Can being too caring ever be a bad thing in work?
#1
Hey all,
This might sound weird but I’m honestly curious… can being too caring ever work against you in your job? I was reading this profile earlier: here’s the link, and it really stood out because the vibe was so genuine. Like, not just a professional doing their job, but someone who actually feels stuff deeply.

It made me wonder though—while that kind of energy is amazing, especially when dealing with people or animals, can it ever get in the way? Like, what if you care so much it starts affecting your own mental health? Or if people take advantage of it?

I've known a few people (especially in caregiving or service fields) who struggled with burnout because they put everyone else first. They were caring to the core, but they never set limits. In some cases, they ended up quitting jobs they loved just because it got too overwhelming.

So I’m wondering: where’s the line between being genuinely compassionate and protecting your own peace? Is it even possible to balance both long-term?
Don’t get me wrong—I think we need more people who care deeply, not less. But I’m starting to see how important boundaries are too.

Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences, especially if you’ve been in a field where caring too much came with its own challenges.
